Grease Trap Cleaning

What is a grease trap?
In simple terms, grease traps are designed to trap fatty oils, grease, and sludge (FOGs). The substances pass through a catching system, which gives them time to cool down and solidify allowing the water to pass through the drain as normal. This separates unwanted fats and oils from greywater before it enters the wastewater disposal system.
Grease traps are easily overlooked as in many cases, it’s “out of sight, out of mind”. If your grease trap becomes slow or clogged, it poses some real issues.
Why does it need regular maintenance?
This system must be maintained regularly in order to be effective in keeping your grease trap clean. Grease from kitchens and food processing plants can build up very quickly and become very difficult to remove.
Business in the food industry produces large volumes of grease which enters the drainage system from sinks, cooking equipment, and dishwashers. If not removed, this grease eventually results in blockages and back-ups. In turn, sewer pipe blockages are the leading cause of sewer overflows, causing property damage and infrastructure problems.
If your grease trap starts to slow, or if it becomes blocked, wastewater from equipment such as some ovens, or dishwashers will not drain correctly. This may cause flooding and may result in health and safety, along with hygiene issues
